ISV Foundation Releases International Standard Version® New Testament
The First Bible Translation Produced Specifically for
Today’s Computer Literate Generation Combines State-of-the-Art Accuracy with Free
Up-to-the-Minute Online Upgrades
Yorba Linda, California, April
10, 1998 -- The first English language translation of the Bible
crafted specifically for today’s computer-literate readers debuts on Easter Sunday
with the publication by Yorba Linda-based Davidson Press of a special paperback preview
edition of its groundbreaking International Standard Version New Testament,
produced by the ISV Foundation, also of Yorba Linda, California.
General Editor for the ISV® is Dr.
George Giacumakis. Dr. Giacumakis also serves as Director of the Mission Viejo Campus of
California State University at Fullerton. He has worked in the field of Bible translation
for more than thirty years.
Associate Editor of New Testament is Dr. David
Alan Black, an internationally recognized authority on New Testament Greek. Dr. Black is
the author of Using New Testament Greek in Ministry: A Practical Guide for Students and
Pastors (Grand Rapids: Baker, 1993), Learn to Read New Testament Greek
(Nashville: Broadman & Holman, 1994), and Linguistics for Students of New Testament
Greek: Revised Edition (Grand Rapids: Baker, 1995).
Associate Editor of Old Testament is Dr. Ed
Curtis. Dr. Curtis is Professor of Old Testament at Talbot School of Theology, Biola
University, La Mirada, California. The Learn Foundation plans to release the Old Testament
in the International Standard Version sometime during the Fall of 2000.
Work on the International Standard Version is
being supervised by the ISV Foundation’s Committee on Translation. Dr. Ron
Rietveld, Professor of History at California State University at Fullerton serves on the
Committee along with Dr. Giacumakis, Dr. Black, and Dr. Curtis.
The

Mr. William Welty also is a member of the Committee on Translation.

consulted for the preview release of the ISV New Testament. Among them are:

"All of these individuals are conservative
scholars who respect the reliability of the Scriptures. They have meticulously prepared
the ISV using only the best in modern scholarship," says ISV General Editor Dr.
George Giacumakis.
The Learn Foundation chose the name International
Standard Version because the title accurately describes the new translation: The
ISV is international in that slang, national colloquialisms, or confusing
regionalisms are avoided and standard in that the ISV was designed for use
in public worship services as well as private Bible studies.

smoothly in lucid, natural English.

quite possibly the most insightful version of the Bible you’ll ever read,"
claims Dr. Black. The Committee on Translation was guided by 24 specific Principles of
Translation that specified how the original languages would be rendered. The Principles of
Translation are published in the introduction to the ISV, together with the names and
backgrounds of all translators.

thoughts, intents, and words of the original text of the Bible in language both parents
and their children can understand, appreciate, and apply.

of the original languages stand out with a crystal clarity that is sometimes astonishing.
Poetic passages such as Philippians 2:6-11 and Titus 3:4-7 have been painstakingly crafted
as true poems so the undistorted sense of the original literary form becomes readily
